When updating one’s name, the form must be mailed or taken to your local county election commission office. The form must be signed and received no later than five (5) days before the election in order to process the change. All statewide and local candidates in Louisiana are elected by majority vote. A majority vote is one more than 50% of the total votes cast for that office. When one candidate is to be elected, a candidate who receives a majority of the votes cast for an office in a primary election is elected. If no candidate receives a majority, the top two candidates who receive the most votes advance to the general election.

The computers attached to the scanners store the ballot images and vote selections, but results are not totaled until after the polls close on Election Day. This feature of the voting system allows us to begin scanning the ballots before Election Day. As soon as the envelopes make their first pass through the Agilis, Yolo County Elections staff compare the signature on the envelope with the signatures on file in the voter’s record. Our staff are trained to look for similar characteristics, such as height, slant, and spacing of letters. If the signatures match, the ballot is qualified to be counted.
